This may seem weird. It feels weird. It feels even weirder to admit it. But I prefer texting over the telephone. Talking to my Mom and Dad is the only exception. …
Derek got me the entire WKRP in Cincinnati DVD collection for my birthday and we’ve been watching a couple of episodes at a time, when we can. …

For her birthday, my brother gave our Mom a flat-screen TV. Unfortunately, it didn’t work with her old TV stand and the size of stand she wanted wasn’t easily found unless you had an unlimited budget. Derek said, no worries Ma, we’ll make you one! …
No matter how many years removed I am from paying my dues, and working every stat holiday, I’ll never stop being grateful that someone else has to do that now. …

Months ago, my sister-in-law Carolyn shared a post on my Facebook page about a Pinterest project. Someone had taken an old, wooden dresser and turned it into a bench. Carolyn had an old dresser that had been in the family for decades. It used to belong to our husbands’ maternal Grandma and it had seen better days. Carolyn suggested, half-joking I’m sure, that hubby and I take this on. We leapt at the chance! Once we ascertained that the dresser was indeed made of solid wood, we got to work, and kept at it when we had time.  …
If I had a dime for every time I rolled my eyes when my Mom talked about her beloved Purple Martins, I might be able to knock a few working years off this life and retire early. Â …
In recent years, The Western Fair has been a little tired. We always go, but it just hasn’t had the zip and zest of years past. The first thing you’d see when you walked through the gates were hot tubs and bedsheet vendors. The midway was small and the rides pretty run-of-the-mill. I don’t even ride on rides anymore and I noticed the descent. …
As you may know, I’m one of Canada’s advocates for spreading the word about sepsis. As a survivor of it, I’ve gotten to know the major organizations fighting to get the illness recognized by world health bodies, and to have World Sepsis Day, September 13, endorsed as an official day to alert even more people to this potentially – and often – fatal infection in the blood. …

I meant to take of photo of Alain’s car, stuffed full with my drums, cymbals and assorted stands, but I forgot. It’s just as well. I probably shouldn’t look back. …

Spice the wonder-cat, the head of security, the lead tiger of the house, is an indoor cat. He has no front claws, very few teeth, and when we adopted him at age 11 I signed a declaration promising to keep him inside. It’s for his own safety. I’m not a fan of roaming felines anyway, so it was a no-brainer. …

If you’ve never played the online game Candy Crush, you might only know it from the requests to play that clutter up social media. That, by the way, is a problem with your privacy settings on Facebook. If you’re getting anything you don’t want on your page, it’s your fault. You can prevent it. But people would rather complain. And I digress. …

Last week, a payroll person at the Montreal head office of my new employer emailed me to let me know that my first pay had bounced back when they attempted a direct deposit. It was a little unsettling because I would like anyone to be able to deposit into my account any time they wish. There should be no barriers to giving me money! …
