No, not Ken. Ken’s awesome and a terrific cohost and collaborator. But I’m talking about a woman who works in a completely different division and has made the most incredible offer to me. …

A couple of birthdays ago, I gave Derek a gift certificate for a helicopter flying lesson at St.Thomas Airport. He loves helicopters and has often said that if he had it to do all over again, he’d like to fly one. This was as close as I could get him. It included a 15 minute flight.

The slowest house-flip in the province is now complete. This flip was so slow (how slow was it?) that it was more like a slow-speed roll. But now it’s done and we’re out with our shirts still on our backs. …
For me, it’s stiff corduroys and itchy sweaters, probably too hot for summer’s last gasp in early September, but long-ago chosen as the first day’s uniform because they were new. I don’t remember a lot about the first days of elementary school but high school is still fairly fresh. …

It’s difficult to get attention for a cause. When something like the Ice Bucket Challenge catches on, it’s so gratifying for the charity – in this case, defeating ALS. It’s hard to get momentum, to capture peoples’ attention, and every cause is worthy. September is Sepsis Awareness month and there’s actually some good news on the sepsis front. …
It’s only been a year since Derek had his 20-year ponytail lopped off. …

While we’re on vacation, I’m rerunning some of my favourite blog posts.Â
It was cold when we started out on our riding adventure. Â Once you get moving on a motorcycle -3 degree conditions turn much chillier and the wind whips your face into a froth. My riding goggles proved woefully inadequate and tears poured from both eyes as the frigid air permeated several layers of clothing. …

Spice is sick. How sick, we weren’t sure, so we took him to the vet on Wednesday morning. Taking a senior cat to a vet is like logging onto webMD. The symptoms could be the common cold, or deadly cancer! …
Women of a certain age have always known that some clothing stores use a size chart that caters to only our bracelet-charm-sized sisters. They simply don’t want anyone with a muffin top to pass through their doors. Once we get it, we avoid them. I call them “Tabitha stores” because only my size 0, little sister Tabitha can fit into their stuff. I’m looking at you, Le Chateau. …
I  am really late to the story here, but I was reluctant to write about Muhammad Ali because, besides the obvious loss of a legend, his was another death attributable to sepsis, the disease that nearly KOd me several years ago. In his case, it was septic shock, meaning severe sepsis that doesn’t respond to treatment. Sepsis gets “severe” when it starts to affect internal organs, as it did with my liver. …

In an effort to move our radio station away from the “angry old white man” perception of talk radio, we became one of the major sponsors of Pride London, which ended yesterday with the annual parade. …
This week, Derek’s beloved Auntie Barb died just four months shy of her 96th birthday. She was Derek’s Dad’s older sister who worked for 40 years at BMO and looked after her Mother, Derek’s Gram.  She lived as a single lady, although she had many friends and suitors. …
I used to wish I had a sister. Not instead of my brother, but in addition to him. Sisters seemed to share an intuitiveness. And their clothes. But my parents never came through for me! …
