(It Felt Like) Five Seconds of Summer

Summer isn’t my favourite season. I much prefer the spring and fall. In fact, while everyone else in Ontario complains that this was the summer that wasn’t, I’m the rare bird who’s quite pleased with Mother Nature’s work. A little cooler, a little drier; alright by me.  …

More Than Fun & Games

I want to tell you about my brother’s and my friend Al. I call Al my brother from another mother. Al’s Dad and our Dad were business partners at one time. Kevin and Al hung out in high school and have been close pals ever since. They recently went on the motorcycle adventure to Alaska together that I wrote about recently. (That story HERE) …

Starsky & Hutch, Turner & Hootch, Ken & Lisa

Ken and I are shooting a TV commercial this morning. It’s not just for our Morning Show on CJBK; afternoon drive host Andy Oudman is also in it and although the script is a closely guarded secret, I gather we are taking part in a mock debate, so it sounds like it will be fun. I will post it here once it’s finished and on the air.  …

A Tale of Two Superstars

I hope your long weekend was wonderful. And if you worked, I hope people were kind to you. As I’ve mentioned before, losing track of the time is my ultimate indulgence. So, when social media pal (and world’s biggest tiny Donny Osmond fan) Carolyn retweeted Donny’s link to his and his wife Debbie’s new home furnishings collection, Donny Osmond Home, my inner child dove in to look at each and every piece. …

“Never work with animals or children.” WC Fields

On Thursdays, we have a segment on the show called Ask Me Anything. Someone with a fascinating hobby or profession comes in and answers anything we and our listeners want to know about what they do. We’ve had a funeral director, a gun fanatic, a veterinarian, a former police chief and other interesting people. This week, I invited intuitive medium – psychic, if you like – Tania Thomas. She knew from the outset that I was a skeptic and she loves to talk about her work. But the result was unpredictable for another reason altogether.  …

You’re Sweet Enough

The next time you pour Sucralose, Aspartame or Stevia into a beverage in hopes of being healthier and perhaps even losing weight, consider this: there’s little data about the long-term effects of these non-sugar sweeteners on your health. And a new study from the University of Manitoba finds they may actually be linked to weight gain and an increased risk of diabetes.

Bristling for Change

Wire BBQ brushes are back in the news and in front of Health Canada. It’s conducting an investigation after nine injuries were reported to have been caused by the brushes, in the past few years. Sometimes wires come off the brushes and land in the food. They end up in people’s tongues or throats and potentially migrate into the gut. It’s dangerous and sometimes difficult for surgeons to remove. So we set out to find an alternative.  …

Falling Behind

The motorcycle industry is hurting. This isn’t anything new. It hasn’t really recovered since sales plummeted in the mid 2000s when the economy took a hit and the first things people gave up were their “play” items. They stopped buying sports cars, boats and bikes. When things started to pick up again, motorcycle manufacturers found themselves trying to sell powerful machines to people who were too old to want them.  …

Throwback Thursday – Bye-bye Bears

Considering the amount of time I’ve spent in my old hometown lately and the Facebook friends I have from high school including the group dedicated just to my class year, you’d think I would have caught wind of the farewell party for the school itself. But no one breathed a word about it until afterward. Looks like most of my old classmates didn’t even attend. Pity.  …
