Naming the News

So ol’ Lloyd Robertson, the man who has had a grandfatherly smile for as long as I can remember is finally going to retire after leaving a 35 year butt-print in the CTV anchor chair.  Well, he wasn’t the main anchor that whole time but I really wanted to write “35 year butt-print”.  Naturally, people are asking me about his replacement, Lisa LaFlamme.  I say “Hurrah!” but not because she’s a woman, because she’s a Lisa.  …

Former host of The Insider, Pat O’Brien, is writing his autobiography.  The nasally-voiced, bookish talking head made headlines a few years ago for creepily propositioning a young female colleague (caught on tape, on her answering machine) and later for a workplace email in which he claimed Insider co-host Lara Spencer made viewers “want to vomit”.   So the man’s no saint.   He has sobered up and is trying to fly right. …
