This is a milestone in our little voice-over conglomerate. We now have Source Connect and I’m more than happy to tell you what that means.
Sometimes, a voice-over client will want to direct the talent as the script is read. Until now, Derek and I were only able to do that over the phone. We would record the session and then send it to the client. Now, as long as both parties have Source Connect, they can also record the session in high quality. A producer in Los Angeles or Dallas or even Toronto can stay put while we stay here in Wallaceburg. As long as there’s high-speed Internet, the system works like a charm.
The previous gold standard of remote recording was ISDN – Integrated Services Digital Network. But Source Connect is growing in popularity because it’s less expensive (although it’s not cheap!) and easier to install. Some voice industry gurus believe ISDN will die out as Source Connect takes over. However, many studios that have invested in ISDN will still use it for some time to come. It’s still in demand.
Many clients specify that they want either ISDN or Source Connect or there’s no sense in auditioning for their jobs. Now we can compete for those gigs and offer the service to others who want to rent it by the hour. Here in little Wallaceburg – who would have thought?
