Aretha Franklin found a way to be relevant in every era since she first emerged with her now-classic hits in the 1960s. She sang gospel in the 70s, recorded hit songs with the likes of Annie Lennox, George Michael and the Rolling Stones in the 80s. Back to gospel and love songs in the 90s. In the 2000s, she released Christmas music and more gospel. And in the last few years, toured and continued to record.Â
Aretha probably didn’t mean to take Adele to school on her own song but in 2014, that’s what she did. On her Great Diva Classics album, Franklin proved she still had it with Rolling in the Deep. I keep this video on my desktop – it’s an audio-only recording – and play it when I need a charge of energy. She was 72 when this song came out! RIP Queen of Soul. Thanks for the music.
Unfortunately the video is unavailable in the U.S. Likely a cash grab by one of the record companies. Thank God she never signed with Motown.
I replaced it with the official Vevo audio-only version. Thanks Ed.
