Some people call them “boob lights”. They’re those ceiling fixtures that sort of resemble breasts. You see them everywhere and the most basic design can be had for less than $20. It’s what was on our kitchen ceiling and once I set my sights on it, its days were numbered.
Most of the ideas I found while surfing around online involved painting the globe or replacing it with strands of crystals. That didn’t seem appropriate for our small kitchen where practicality is king. I had an idea in the back of my mind but couldn’t quite make it gel until I drove near our IKEA pick-up store and it hit me – IKEA has a chrome bowl that would be perfect. It has cut-outs to let the light through and it’s large, but not deep. I popped in and picked one up for $20.
Derek drilled a hole dead-centre, polished it and put it up before I knew it. I love it! The floral design makes it a little girly but it’s also manly because of the metal. And my favourite part is that in most people’s homes, this bowl holds fruit or potpourri. It’s entirely unexpected to see it on the ceiling!
Such a clever girl!
