This week I’m hosting an afternoon drive show.
I last did an afternoon drive show about 7 years ago. Once. And it was in music radio. Before that, it was perhaps a 15 year gap. It’s not my thing. I’m a morning person! As weird as it must seem, getting up at 3:15 am comes much more naturally to me than being on top of my game at 3:15 pm, especially after decades of a ridiculously early alarm going off.
However, vacations and other absences mean our staff is stretched thinly…and here we are. I take pains to explain that I’m “filling in for Andy Oudman” not “doing Andy Oudman’s show”. Andy does what he does very well, but not only are he and I almost complete polar opposites politically and in other ways, I’m not at liberty to take…liberties…as I fall under the auspices of CTV News which means I’m not supposed to take sides on issues.
Heh heh. I do stretch that sometimes. Motto: beg forgiveness, don’t ask permission.
However, the show will mainly stick to news items and interviews. But every once in a while, something is bound to slip out. That’s the fun of talk radio. It’s not like you can go to the next hit song – you’re IT. Ad-libbing is harder than it seems. Ad-libbing smartly is truly difficult. So wish me luck and feel free to call in and harass/inspire/inform me. 519-643-1290. Text: 10-1290. That’s what it’s all about and all’s fair in love and radio!
I think it’s lovely that Scott gave you this week to sleep in, and that they were able to scramble to find somebody to fill in on your show for you. I’m sure you’re missed – and appreciated for your ability to jump into the breach when it’s needed. There’s never a dull moment in this business, is there?
Mightn’t it have been easier to put the fill-in morning person in the afternoon show rather than moving all of the chess pieces? Again…never a dull moment. Enjoy waking up in daylight, girl!
