I used to wish I had a sister. Not instead of my brother, but in addition to him. Sisters seemed to share an intuitiveness. And their clothes. But my parents never came through for me!
So, when I got older, I chose my sisters. I’ve had a few over the years and even the ones I no longer see remain sisters in my heart. I chose one, of course, in Tabitha, with whom I was matched in the Big Sisters program. And now I also have four of them in the form of sisters-in-law. Each of them is special and wonderful in her own way.
Three of us have birthdays pretty close together and six years ago, we celebrated with amazing cupcakes from one of London’s many cupcake shops. Barb, Kelly and I have our cupcake toppers on our tongues!
I wouldn’t trade my brother for anyone – and I mean, really, who would take him? (I kid! I kid!) But I do love having sisters to consult, gossip and commiserate with.
