The old Jim Stafford song Spiders and Snakes lumps both icky creatures together as if you must hate both if you hate one. For me, that’s not the case at all, and I proved it when I cohosted the KOOL-FM morning show years ago and a snake wrangler brought one of his slitherly pals into the studio.Â
While my cohost recoiled in horror, I literally wore this albino python for a few minutes. He was soft and … can I call a snake friendly? Let’s put it this way – he didn’t seem to want to tighten around my neck and kill me. But with a snake, one can never be sure.
He was a heavy beast but I had no qualms about holding him. In fact, I didn’t want to give him back – although taking him home would have been a stretch. At feeding time, I probably would have tried to talk him into becoming a vegetarian.
You couldn’t call me a fan of snakes. But they don’t bother me the way spiders do, or the way they bother my Mom who I predict will never read this post! At least you get some warning when a creature the size of this python is heading toward you. And I’m glad I didn’t chicken out of holding it because I probably won’t ever get another opportunity like it.
Yes, I like snakes too. Caught one when kids were small, let them take it to school and returned it to the field the next day, so my kids never feared them either. My husband’s still not a fan though..
