Photos of me without makeup show an undereye area that’s as dark as a bruise. Interestingly, that shade extends all around the eye. Mother Nature isn’t content to just give me dark bags. No, after so many years of getting up in the middle of the night, the circles actually go into my eyelids!
Last week, Erin Davis posted a journal about her favourite under-eye concealer. I promptly bought some and it’s now part of my arsenal. It helps, but my case is a stubborn one. So when I happened upon a video of a new makeup procedure that face-painters to the stars are touting as the ultimate solution to my problem, I had to give it a whirl and I’m inspired by Erin’s post to share it now.
Red lipstick. Yes, that’s what I said. These are my eyes without any makeup on. There’s a lovely greenish-grey semicircle under them and it’s the green hue that the red lipstick is supposed to offset.
First, the red lipstick is applied and then shmushed. Think football player.
Then apply concealer and foundation.
The area looks obviously made up because of the rest of my skin is bare, but I think you’ll agree that you can’t see the red anymore. Or the green.
The first time I tried this method, I presented my face to Derek and asked, which eye looks darker? He picked the made up eye! I think it’s because I used a high-test regular concealer. So I used a regular one for this test and I see an improvement after the lipstick treatment. The tone is more even and someone I meet is less likely to guess that I’m part raccoon. I’m a hard case so I’m happy for any improvement.
This isn’t something I’ll do on a daily basis. All of this trouble might be worth it for a photo shoot or TV show. And it would be fun to see the look of shock on someone’s face as I start applying lipstick under my eyes!
