Yes, Apple brought us many innovations and, yes their products are amazing and changed the world of technology and blah blah blah. I just wish someone had told me that once I chose an iPhone, it was like choosing which side of the bed to sleep on. It’s mine for life!
My iPhone 4S was giving me grief and I knew it was high time to upgrade to another device. Finally, on Saturday morning I had had enough of its warnings about storage and slow response time, and visited Wireless Wave. (I love WW because they have access to all phones and all plans.)
This was my chance. I could get an android or some other less expensive but equally cool phone and leave Apple and its stupid keyboard and world domination behind. A comperable Galaxy phone was about 1/3 the price of an iPhone 6 and even had more storage and a better camera. But then I started asking questions and it became clear that transferring my data to anything but another Apple product would be troublesome. I’d lose all of my apps and have to start again. Even something like my 1500+ Draw Something game streak with Erin Davis would be wiped out. Noooooooooo!
Darn it all anyway!
So I bought the iPhone 6. And I paid extra for 64 gb of storage, instead of the measly 16 it comes with. I got $33 credit for my 4S and another $75 credit for accessories since it was my lucky day, or something, so I purchased an Otter box for protection. The iCloud transfer went swimmingly except for my photos and notepad, which I backed up before shutting down the old phone.
And then I played with my new phone. Not only does it make the 4S look like a child’s toy, I can actually see what I’m doing now. I thought the bigger phone would be awkward to handle, but it’s not. It’s wonderful. It’s fast and it has extra features that make communicating even quicker and easier. Damn you Apple! I just can’t seem to quit you.
When you buy from Apple, you’re not buying a product but a religion. Interoperability was never a consideration in Steve Jobs’ world.
I guess that’s what bugs me. I am not an Apple fan – and I find the whole idea of being a fan of a corporation distasteful!
But it was easier to go with the iPhone, for sure. Once you’re in… it’s not so easy to leave!
Once you get into a given smart phone eco system it can be difficult to switch, but it is possible. The majority of apps are available for both the Ios and Android platform but you have to do some research some times to find them.
There are also apps specifically designed to transfer from one platform to another, so once you confirm you can get copies of all your apps on the other platform, your good to go.
If you ever get tired of dating Apple, here is a site which can assist with your break up: http://www.iskysoft.us/lp/phone-transfer/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PhoneTransfer_SS_H_pid(1903)_&utm_term=switch%20from%20%2Bandroid%20to%20%2Bios
Yeah that all looks good but I don’t trust any of it! In fact, Apple was supposed to capture everything and missed my notes and photos. It’s all reliable-ish. Derek got an LG. He’s gone Android and he’s having issues with it that are much more severe than mine. He may have paid $0 for the phone but he’s paying more than I did, in aggravation.
The link I provided doesn’t deal with the learning curve with the different platforms, just the technology. Once Derek gets over the learning curve, then see if he’d ever go back to an Iphone.
Thank you for being my Draw Something friend! I feel just a little guilty that it may have been another link in the chain that has you so firmly connected to the Apple Empire, but I’m a little flattered, too. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some drawing to do! 😉
