When I worked at MIX 999 it wasn’t unusual to run into a celebrity you didn’t even know was in the building. Movie-star magnet Brian Linehan was working at CFRB down the hall so you might bump into Lauren Bacall in the coffee room or pass Michael J. Fox on his way to the men’s room. Loads of rock stars came in for interviews with those of us at the MIX, mainly Maureen Holloway, who hosted an evening interview show.
I was once grabbed by the hand and dragged out to the foyer to snap a photo with Lou Diamond Phillips. One day I was asked if I could fill in, last minute, for ailing Sports Director Dave Quinn and interview Mario Andretti who was coming in shortly. Remember, kids, there was no Google back then to help me cram for an interview with a legend I knew little about. No two days were the same!
But I have no recollection of ever meeting rock legend Joan Jett. One day a few years ago, while scrolling through Facebook posts, I saw my former Program Director JJ Johnston had tagged me in a photo. And there I was, grinning for all I’m worth, alongside JJ, Music Director Wayne Webster, and Ms. Jett herself.
I wish I could say it was a profound moment, but it didn’t even make my memory bank. And yet, there I am, one warm body away from a rock and roll legend. It makes me wonder who else I met but can’t remember.Â
Happy Birthday Lisa.
