When I was a kid, it was the height of cool to drop by a record store and pick up the CKOC street sheet to see that week’s top 40 songs. CKOC was Hamilton’s all-hit radio. If you were in Toronto, it was CFTR. Any top 40 radio station worth its 45s was putting out a little top 40 chart every week.
So, it was an absolute thrill to appear on a few of them during my time on the air at CKSL, London’s version of ‘OC and ‘TR. I believe this one with Paul Young and contest winners was my first.
Side note: I thought I was morbidly obese at the time. Seriously. But I digress.
I recall also making the cover with Corey Hart and some of my colleagues, and once on my own when I had super-short hair, to promote my Saturday night show. Radio stations spent a lot of money on promotion back then. Things were different! And I’m so glad I got to be a part of it.
