Brushes With Fame

Celebrities are just people who got good at what they do and became known for it. Or they’re Kardashians. But social media has given us a chance to connect with them and them with us.

Up until last week, my biggest and strangest celebrity social media connection was when Marie Osmond started following me on Twitter. That doesn’t count the debacle a few years ago when I used the “s + talker” word jokingly in reference to NASCAR racer Carl Edwards and his people were not amused. I still wish for him to lose every week because people surrounded by idiots don’t deserve to win. But I digress.

We’re watching a new TV comedy called The Last Man on Earth. It airs on FOX and is the creation of its star, former SNL player Will Forte. Among his many characters, Will played the strangely soft-spoken political candidate Tim Calhoon, The Falconer, a bird handler who always got manipulated by Donald the bird, the super-happy dancing football coach and of course, McGruber. The new show centres on a guy who finds himself alone in the world, literally, after some sort of plague wipes everybody out. It’s no Walking Dead, though. You won’t see bodies lying around or anything gory or too gross. It’s a comedy, after all. And it’s polarizing fans. People either totally love it or absolutely hate it. We love it!

So I tweeted for people to watch it because a) it’s on so-called network TV so it’s beholden to ratings and b) I don’t think a lot of people know it exists and I’d like it to continue. Never did I imagine that Forte would respond. I responded to his response and although it was tempting to keep him going, I figured I’d better not push it! (Damn you Carl Edwards!) You can click it to enlarge it.

Twitter back and forth in which I compliment Will's show, he thanks me for the support, I say I still miss him on SNL as The Falconer and he says he misses it too!

  1. THAT is so cool! I was chuffed when I got a “thanks” from a Maclean’s reporter today (I’ve been fangurling all over the Richard III coverage – I’m a total geek) but you’ve WAY outdone me with one of our SNL faves! Awesome.

    1. Heehee. Just to think that I was in his head for maybe 15 seconds. That’s enough! Until I get David Beckham on Twitter…kidding.
