The end of year assessment is so predictable, isn’t it? But what better time is there to take stock of where you’ve been, where you are and where you want to go? I don’t make resolutions like I used to but I still like to take a hard look at where things stand.
And things are pretty darn good. There’s much to be grateful for.
Work life hit some bumps this year with Derek’s job loss and my survivor’s guilt, since we worked at the same place. I don’t think anyone would expect that to be an easy situation from any angle, and it hasn’t been, but life presents all sorts of challenges. This was one of ours.
Voice-work went very well in 2014. I got to add some pretty cool clients to my resume, most recently U.S. Homeland Security and the parody news website, The Onion. The voice game is a constant challenge, as well. The actual voicing is just a part of it. My House Proud column for Sun Media is in its 7th year. I’m heading back to Fanshawe College to teach for another term and hope to devote more time in 2015 to the creation of little household gizmos made from repurposed things like old doorknobs and scraps of wood and such. Maybe in my own store on Etsy? Maybe in a shop.
And if I can accomplish one thing at the end of 2014, let it be getting rid of these darn trophies!
I have five of them. They’re valuable, they’ve never been awarded, and I can’t find anyone who wants them! Someone, somewhere is this minute ordering these things for a trade show or similar event and they’ll pay a ton of cash. All I want is a fraction of what they go for as a finder’s fee. If you know anyone who might have even the slightest interest in them, I beg of you, let them know they’re available! They take up a lot of room and it’s looking like my only other option will be to award them to family members next Christmas!
