I’m a Little Bit Country…

…and a little bit English and Polish and who knows what else?  That’s what I aim to find out.

My husband looked at me as if I’d lost the marbles I have left when I told him I was ordering a DNA test. Not just that, but I was getting it on sale, through a Groupon! I did check out the company and they are legit and I do enjoy a good sale.

The test is meant to tell me my ancestry. It’s not to be confused with a genetic test which is much more detailed and serious. This is the lick of a stick and it’s sent away to a lab. It’s how paternity testing is done. In my case, I’m just curious to find out what types of heritage make up the collection of atoms that is me.

Our friends Dan and Amanda (whom we refer to as Damanda) had DNA testing done on their dog. Dallas is a rescue from another country and an odd but adorable mutt whose breed isn’t easily identifiable so they were just curious. Turns out he’s got quite a mix in him, dominated by black lab. To them it was just for kicks and had no bearing on their affection for the dog or any future plans. And it’s the same with me. It’s available, so for a few bucks I can find out whether I have Irish or African or milkman in me. (Just kidding Mom!) I’m looking forward to receiving the kit and seeing the results. I’ll share them here unless it turns out that I’m part carrier pigeon, hoop snake and jackalope.

If you’re curious, the company’s website is located HERE.
