Bill Gates has done it. So have Oprah, Ricky Gervais, Martha Stewart and a host of other internationally famous people. Finally, ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease – is getting some much-deserved attention and donations. And it’s all through a bucket of cold, icy water that has gone viral, quickly.
ALS will typically affect a man in his prime and to put it bluntly, it’s a death sentence. There’s no treatment or cure. It’s a truly awful disease that robs the patient of his dignity long before it takes his life.
The Ice Bucket Challenge started with an ALS patient in Massachusetts. When nominated, you have 24-hours in which to pour a bucket of ice-water over your head on video, challenge three others, and post your video online. If you refuse, it costs you a $100 donation. Blair and Derek both did the deed and I jokingly wrote out a $100 cheque on air. But when I was truly challenged by the wonderful Gina Lorentz, my former colleague at CHML and at Fanshawe College where she is a Professor, I decided to rise to it. I was having a bad hair day anyway, so what the heck. (And I made a donation, which is part of the point of course.) Who did I challenge? You’ll have to click the video to find out.
YAY! Wonderfully said, beautifully done. Congrats. I LOVE that ALS is getting the spotlight. E.
Brrrr. Yowza GIRL, way ta go! My cheque is in the mail, well web-mail, kinda-sorta! Best part is that my employer will match my donation so ALS gets a double whammy!
Wuv you Weeser!
