Update: Joe the Cat

Those who are caring for Joe the cat, the frisky feline shot in the head 17 times with a pellet gun, have provided an update on his progress.  And it’s all good news.

Joe is the two-year-old kitty who was found in Sarnia in February after someone shot him and left him for dead.  Two young men, one 19 and one 20, are charged in the crime. You can read the original post here.

This is how Joe looks now as he recovers from several surgeries including the removal of one of his eyes.

He is with a foster family who, next to Personal Support Workers, nurses, police officers,  firefighters and those who foster adoptable children, are the real saints of the world. I don’t know how you could not fall in love with an animal you foster and just keep it!

Joe’s surgeries cost about $6000.  Donations topped $18,000 so the rest of the money will go into a fund for other emergency animal care. Six other animals have already been helped. The foster family talked to the London Free Press and say Joe is affectionate and trusting and healing well from all of his medical ordeals including infections and possibly permanent brain injuries. In the coming months they’ll determine whether he can be adopted out and the men charged with shooting him will have their days in court.

There have been a lot of animal cruelty cases in the news lately. I won’t explain them  here. It’s bad enough that I know about them without sharing the details with you as well. So I like to focus on Joe, the little kitty that survived despite the odds and the intentions of whoever did this to him. His progress is a victory for the good guys.
