UPDATE: At 8:50 am the owner of the clinic called to apologize. The sign was placed in the wrong spot. It is being dismantled as I write and will be moved. Yay! Now back to the original story:
Sometime Friday afternoon between when I got home after teaching and hubby woke up from a nap, this happened.Â
That is the north end of our property which borders on the lawn and back alley of the plaza next door. We like having them for neighbours because there’s virtually no noise and it’s convenient. A large fence separates us and we can’t even see the goings-on.
The sign is, technically, on the plaza’s property, next to a fence that they, technically, own but because it’s on the property line, we both share responsibility for it.
When you exit the plaza, the signs blocks your sight line of vehicles approaching from the south. I know this for sure because I drove there to test the theory.
And they didn’t say a frickin’ word. The hideous thing  just appeared there for us to see as we looked out our front window.
It will not stay, mark my words! I considered slapping a huge “50% off!” banner on it or blacking out some of the teeth of the deliriously happy couple showing off their new dentures. However I don’t want to get a ticket for vandalizing someone else’s belongings. Instead I called the clinic and the plaza’s property manager and explained my displeasure, focusing on the safety issue and the unsightliness of the thing. They’re both closed on the weekend but I expect them to move the sign by the time I get home on Monday, or I will step up my efforts. I have many avenues to pursue if they decide to be jerks about it including calling a city bylaw officer, my city councillor and other tactics. Â Best of all, Derek says he will erect a fence in front of it next weekend if it’s still there. Â Two can play at this game and our teeth aren’t removable – once they’re sunk into an issue, look out!
