The suspect in the pellet gun shooting of Joe the cat appeared in Sarnia court this week. My original story about Joe is posted here.
Christopher Hammond is, of course, innocent until proven guilty of the charge of animal cruelty. The 19-year-old’s bail conditions include not being around any domesticated animals. As Hammond was freed, about 20 people rallied outside the courthouse calling for him to stay behind bars.
And on Wednesday morning Sarnia police arrested a second suspect, a 20-year-old unidentified male who is now in custody awaiting a bail hearing. His charges are causing unnecessary suffering and causing willful injury to an animal. Was this some sort of stupid, drunken lark? The story will unfold shortly.
Hammond will be back in court on March 19th. I’ll be watching.
