It looks bad for London Police and for Toronto Police right now in light of two recent incidents.
The video of the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Sammy Yatim is especially grim. But it doesn’t yet tell the whole story. And so I randt.

I can fully understand the anger and emotional upset caused in the Toronto shooting, however we live in a society which is based on “innocent until proven guilty”. Those claiming that if the Officer in the Toronto shooting isn’t charged, then it sends the message that the police are above the law. Unfortunately, ignorance of the law is highly prevalent within society in general, for unlike the average citizen, the police have the authority to use deadly force under a variety of circumstances. The question which should be rightfully asked, did the circumstances in this given situation warrant the use of deadly force and was the appropriate procedures followed in trying to defuse the situation prior to it escalating to the use of deadly force. Once an investigation determines the answers to those questions, then charges may or may not be appropriate and I will support such a decision, as will the majority based on the facts, not emotions.
