I love Joe Fresh clothing. Well, the stuff that isn’t too weird or aimed squarely at only kids. But they actually make a good quality dress pant at a reasonable price. And now we all know why. That’s the inspiration for this week’s Brandt’s Randt on 98.1 Free-FM.
Here we go again, addressing a symptom verses the real underlying problem. Loblaws is taking the shit for: building owners who didn’t have the right permits, shoddy materials and construction, a building which was declared unsafe several days before the collapse and workers told not to enter but due to the pressures of their employer I.E. fear of being fired we have a unfortunate disaster where people got killed.
so, my question is, where in the hell are the political leaders, government officials and other minions responsible for over seeing the infrastructure and making sure buildings meet building codes? Oh, right, there the ones who built and own the building, surprise surprise surprise.
When you move work off shore, your subjecting yourself to the jurisdictional realities of that country with all its warts, and although we can set and establish standards, unless you have people on site 7/24 to ensure compliance, shortcuts will be taken, for not only do the Loblaws of the world wish to make profits, but so do those being contracted and the cheaper they can get the work done, the more money in their pockets.
so you want someone to blame, well consumers and shareholders of these companies, take a good hard look in the mirror and you’ll see the culprit!
Allan, it’s a 30 second radio bit, not a comprehensive analysis of the issue. Apples, meet oranges. I’m a Canadian taking the point of view of the end user, which is all we are over here. And I said I was a consumer and I won’t be any more because of this. I wrote and aired this on the day that every other newscast was kissing the Westons’ asses for pledging to check out factories in the future. Why didn’t they before? And what good does that do now for the hundreds who died? Bangladesh will only change its ways if it loses business from us. Ergo my randt.
