The idiot motorcycle riders, that is. The ones who give the rest of us safety-conscious, law-abiding riders a bad name.
Many car drivers don’t understand or particularly like bike riders. I speak from experience because I used to be one of them. But I guess it’s not until you become a rider that you realize how many good and safe riders there really are.
But this week a 17-year-old riding in Perth County was clocked at 175 km/hr in an 80 zone so of course, he makes headlines. Not only was he moving at a reckless rate of speed, it was 10 pm, and therefore dark and doubly dumb. Plus he tried to turn when he saw the cruiser, dumped his bike and attempted to shuffle away. His bike was impounded and he’s facing a bunch of charges. And he’s just another foolish teen among thousands. He’s lucky he’s alive.
‘Tis the season when you’ll notice bikes are back out on the road. With any luck and a bit of good weather I hope to get B2 out and about this weekend. First, she badly needs an oil change and a bit of a spit-and-polish, and then we’ll be out there following the rules of the road and watching out for idiots.
