At the end of November 2011 Derek swore he wouldn’t do it again. It was too itchy, too uncomfortable and he grew weary of the comparisons to a porn star. But here we grow again!
MOvember has taken off like crazy since it began in Australia several years ago. Mo, slang for moustache, was paired with November to become the best-known fund-and-awareness raiser for prostate cancer research and prevention. Nearly $200 million has been donated worldwide for (against?) the cause. The Mo is to prostate cancer as the pink ribbon is to breast cancer.
There are some rules of conduct dictated on the Movember site:
Once registered at movember.com each mo bro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face.
For the entire month of November each mo bro must grow and groom a moustache.
There is to be no joining of the mo to [one’s] sideburns. (That’s considered a beard.)
There is to be no joining of the handlebars to one’s chin. (That’s considered a goatee.)
Each mo bro must conduct himself like a true country gentleman.
We’ve been toying with the idea of me joining in on our man-focused morning show on Free-FM by growing my leg hair. But that is not only a little bit gross, it’s also a much bigger area than any Mo-bro would have to tend to and it’s not a trend I’d like to begin. I think simply donating and supporting the cause again this year is a more effective way for me to go.
