Our trip to Europe a few years ago was important for many reasons but not the least of which was spending time with Derek’s family there. Uncle Howard is the patriarch and a beloved one at that. He died yesterday in his 80’s. He had just lost his sister, my mother-in-law Audrey, in April. Family say he just sort of gave up after that.
Uncle Howard and Derek had a special bond. They recently had a great chat on the phone after Derek’s Mother died and I’m grateful for that.
Uncle Howard had to travel from his farm to town three times a week for dialysis and he did so without complaint. All he wanted was to stay on the farm for the rest of his life. He had a terrific laugh and a silly side!
When family live overseas you always run the risk of never seeing them again. I’m so glad I got to see them at all and Uncle Howard has a special piece of our hearts. A life well lived.
I’m so sorry for your, and Derek’s loss. This has been a hard year for you – may the sadness be at an end for you, AND SOON. Hugs, E.
Great pictures, Lisa. Uncle Howard was a wonderful man with a great big laugh that we all heard often when around him. A huge loss for everyone who knew him.
He had such a tremendous influence on Derek and I just remember him being very warm and easy to talk to. And that laugh!
My condolences to you and Derek. That’s tough losing two people who meant so much to you both in such a short time.
