For 45 years, London has added a minute amount of flouride to its drinking water. The World Health Organization calls this act the single most important health benefit that communities have given people and it blames a lack of flouride and a high sugar consumption for ongoing dental issues in poor countries.
There are scads of studies out about the benefits of flouride but vocal opponents to it claim there aren’t any at all. This week London city council, once and for all, voted that flouride should stay in the drinking water. And this is what one of our more moronic councillors put together and handed out.
The photo of this flyer comes courtesy of Nancy Branscombe’s Twitter feed. The papers were left on the desks of councillors and Stephen Orser eventually admitted they were his handiwork. Comparing water flouridation to the holocaust – sadly it’s not the first time nor will it be the last that someone has trivialized that horror on humanity.
The Mayor accepted Orser’s apology.
There is nothing wrong with questioning authority and looking for proof. But when someone outright denies that studies exist because the results don’t please them or they allude that non-toxic levels of a substance are tantamount to torture because it fulfills their own agenda, they lose me and the argument. And this time they also lost the vote.
