I had a very silly idea while I was in Mexico. Not only did I wear a hat with a brim so big it can be seen from the space station, I took photos of what my toes “saw” each day.
Day one: there was quite a long wait for the room. We arrived in the mid-morning AND it’s an hour earlier in Mexico but our rooms weren’t due to be ready until 3 pm. In Erin’s and my case, it was closer to 4. Waiting with nowhere to hang your hat gets old fast. There were weddings booked every day we were there and it was a full house. So we found hammocks and rested our feet.
On the second day, we were poolside for quite a while although I doubt by looking at me anyone can tell I was in Mexico. Thank you SPF 110!
The building is a double-ended restaurant. On the left is Dolce Vita, sometimes offering a buffet and other times an a la carte menu featuring Italian cuisine. On the right is one of two seafood restaurants at the resort where I can vouch for the Cajun shrimp being yummy.
Most of our group chose to hang out at the beach. Since it was just a few steps from our building, we ended up spending quite a bit of time there, too.
My favourite place on the beach was on a lounge chair under a huge wood-and-straw umbrella. There was also a sandy area away from the beach, within a stone’s throw of one of the big pools. When the beach and the poolside got too busy, that’s where we went.
It wasn’t until the last day that somebody pointed out to me that the “red” flag for dangerous conditions had been up on the beach all week. We assumed it was a liability issue. It did get pretty windy one day but that was about it. Otherwise it was sunshine and virgin tropical drinks!
Erin’s toes got into a shot on our last full day because the two women in the photo looked like they had been shipwrecked. I don’t think I fully captured the scene because they bent down to look at something but when they came in to shore after wading out waist-deep, fully dressed, it was kind of funny!! It was like an opening scene from The New Gilligan’s Island!
So there you have it. The toe tale. I think I NAILed it. You have now reached the FOOT of this blog entry. Until next time, please don’t be a HEEL and I appreciate your SUPPORT! If you have any interest in learning more about the actual resort and perhaps even taking a trip here is their website: http://www.bahia-principe.com/en/hotels/riviera-maya/resort-akumal/
And I have to honestly tell you that Air Transat and http://www.tripcentral.ca/ did a wonderful job taking care of all of us. It was my first time flying what Transat calls “club class” and I may be ruined for flying from now on! It is sooooo much better than flying coach. Crazily better!!
I’ve uploaded a bunch more photos under “photo gallery” called Mexico 2012.
A quick glance at your post, would leave someone with the impression that you’re long overdue and need of a vacation, either that or someone needs to toss a large butterfly net over you. However, I suspect that future toe ventures could be avoided if you were to limit your participation in numerous beverages prior to pulling out a camera. Glad you enjoyed your time.
