Three bikes shows in a row are a lot to take on. And I say that as the person who does NOT do the lion’s share of the work to make them happen. I’m married to that person.
So now we are done for the season. The weekend was wonderful, topped off by a Sunday so beautiful that loads of riders chose their bikes over their cars to get to the show in KW.
There are countless beautiful bikes at our shows but in my opinion, this one took the cake. There must be about a quarter of a million dollars sunk into this one-of-a-kind baby that started out as a Harley Davidson but went way off that track by a builder in Phoenix. It has a custom made 30-inch front wheel. Those spokes are hand made and they’re black on the side we see and orange on the other side. The bike has so much detail, it’s impossible to list it all – at least for me.
I left Kitchener on Sunday afternoon having forgotten my lucky charms, Harley Davidson earrings given to me by Erin Davis long ago, on the bedside table of our hotel room When I called and told them I’d left Harley earrings in room 109 the woman on the desk said, “Well we found a pair of Harley Davidson earrings in 105!” I told her, ‘We were staying in 109 – those must be them. Maybe the cleaner made a mistake about the room number.” You think? Duh. There was a long pause. “Well alright.”
I waited, thinking they would offer to mail them to me. They did not. However they did offer to have me pick up the cost of a courier to send them. I said I would get a friend to get them and was just about to peck out an email to my pal Stacey to ask her to pick them up sometime when she was in the area. The phone rang. Our team member Gaetan had gone back to the hotel to pick up his forgotten jacket and somehow he found out about the wayward earrings. He explained that we see each other regularly and he would bring them back to London but the woman refused. So Gaetan had called Derek to “get them to release the earrings to me!” Derek got on the phone to the woman and said it’s okay, give him the earrings. So Gaetan, the former Canadian Navy Captain who was the head of all of Canada’s military ships during the 1991 Gulf War, was given custody of my earrings!
I’m glad they took my possessions so seriously but it is hilarious to us, knowing Gaetan’s background, that some 20-something woman on a desk didn’t want to trust him to bring them back to me. The man once managed our country’s navy and under his watch they never lost a crew member. He has already returned the earrings unharmed!
So I’m ready to stop showing other peoples’ bikes and just talking about them – let’s get out there and ride soon, shall we? Drivers – check your mirrors. Weeeee’reeee baaaaaack!
I totally would’ve picked them up and mailed them back, but I’m happy you had a friend to ‘release’ them to. 🙂
I know you would have! 🙂 Now I’m concerned that you would have needed an affidavit and a blood test in order to get them!
