My media release tells the tale. Here’s the meat of it: WOMEX Charity Ball Denied Liquor License
It is with deep regret that the World of Motorcycles Expo has been forced to cancel its Charity Ball, scheduled for the evening of January 28th at the Careport Centre in Hamilton.
Despite our best efforts to negotiate a solution, the LCBO will not grant us a liquor license for this event. Without a license we are unable to raise the kind of funds worth presenting to MacKids, our chosen charity.
We’d like to thank our wonderful bands, our organizer Tammy Lee Marche and the entire World of Motorcycles Expo team for getting behind this event.
This cancellation does not affect Hamilton’s own World of Motorcycles Expo coming to the Careport Centre January 27, 28 and 29, 2012. Find us on Facebook or go to www.womex.ca for all of the show details as well as info on our London and Kitchener shows.
So that’s the tale. It’s actually the Alcohol and Gaming Commission that grants or denies licenses but the LCBO is the one that put on the brakes so a big raspberry to them! Pffffffft!
On what basis, or do they have to give one? It’s not some ill-conceived notion about bikers, I hope. Sorry to hear – but I hope that attendance at the show itself is huge!
No, no it’s nothing like that. It’s got to do with the charity aspect of the show and the fact that it’s not a food or beverage show. They have SO many rules and regulations. The floor plan alone would make your head hurt. So the next time you’re at a big charity event, give generously!
Let’s not trust adults to handle liquor all on their own. This province is stuck in the 1800s!
