This minute I am holding myself back from doing a dance of joy around the house, singing “I don’t need a C-PAP! I don’t need a C-PAP!”
The reason I’m not going through with the dance is because it usually ends with me stubbing my toe or hitting my elbow or sustaining another minor injury. So I will write about it instead.
The sleep doctor says there is no reason for me to get a C-PAP machine for my sleep apnea since I am getting relief from the Silent Snooz, which I wrote about on January 12th. As long as I’m getting good sleep, which I am for the first time in years, she says there’s no need to go further with treatment.
Now, keep in mind as you read about my mini-miracle that I have only a mild case of apnea and no other health conditions that can be worsened by it. My C-PAP sleep test was a success. I woke up only once an hour instead of 10 times. However, I want to avoid owning a machine as long as humanly possible. I told the Dr. I hoped something better would be invented before I ever need to go that route.
There is one other thing I’m going to look into. The best position for the apnea-prone person to sleep on is their side and there are things that can prevent you from rolling onto your back. I’ve been perusing certain pillows online. Some are $100. Some have very mixed reviews. It will take some more research before I can decide if one might be right for me. Now that I have a taste of what real sleep is like again, I’d like to continue it and make it even better if that’s possible. If that means sleeping against a foam wedge, well, bring it on! Further developments will be posted as warranted. Oh what the heck – now I will dance!
Congratulations! I actually had a visual of you doing a little conga, to the tune the Simpsons sang “You don’t make friends with sa-LID! You don’t make friends with sa-LID!” (yes, salad, but the LID was needed for emphasis). So glad you’re enjoying your time in the land of nod. Here’s to REMs!
It is AMAZING to sleep. To dance? Not so much. You’ve seen me dance. It’s not pretty!
There was a Frank Zappa song that little brother and I used to listen to “Dancin Fool”, I’m envisioning you singing and dancing to it right now. Welcome to a new life of great sleeps, I’m sure Derek would sing and dance with you.
You’re not far off! Don’t forget, we saw Zappa together at MLG back in the day, Al!
