So many women do it. I did it the other day and I only caught myself after it was too late. We criticize our bodies relentlessly. It’s as if we want to put a spotlight on our flaws before anybody else dares to realize that we’re not perfect. Enough already!
The following quote, posted on Facebook by my friend Shannon, brings it home. Do we want our children (or nieces or the children of our friends) to think of themselves as flawed and unworthy? Of course we don’t. I try but I’m vowing right now to try even harder.
“You cannot be a healthy person, let alone hope for healthy children, if you sigh and moan every time you encounter your own image, eat a cookie, or see an airbrushed model on a billboard. Even if it amounts to wholesale pretending, go pretend. Walk around pretending to be a woman who likes her body… Because every step toward self-love you take, and every inch of confidence you give someone’s daughter, makes the world a better place.” Amy Bloom.
besides…..confidence is sexy!
Many studies have shown, that a negative body image is the single greatest barrier to achieving improved fitness and well being. So ladies, say it with me, I look good, I feel good, I look good, I feel good!
This tends to tie into a previous article about how women dress for women and not men from a while back.
