When Cate Blanchett came on stage at the Oscars last night Derek said, “It looks like she’s wearing an ottoman!” I’d have to agree.
In a world where super-ugly is sometimes seen as beautiful – Hollywood – this has got to be the truly ugliest frock to walk the red carpet in recent memory. It looks like an old doily surrounded by spilled beads with thrown-up mustard on the shoulders.
It’s Givenchy couture which means it cost more than most peoples’ annual salary. I suppose it’s what you wear if you haven’t been nominated and you want to be talked about the next day. And then you can take it off and put it back on Grandma’s footstool where it belongs.
At least Tilda Swinton wasn’t there to really show us how little we know about “couture” (which must be french for ‘ugly, but expensive’).
