I mentioned that I had to redo the coating on the entry steps. They’re still roped off with orange “do not pass” tape because I put a second coat of paint on yesterday afternoon before my friend Kerry arrived to help me rip out the useless grapevines out back.
The Beautitone Hardrock stuff that didn’t last and started to chip off almost immediately can’t be returned for a refund. It’s understandable, really, because as it says on the can, ‘we can’t offer a guarantee because we can’t possibly verify that the product was applied properly’, blah blah blah. Well, I followed the instructions to the letter and it still didn’t work. So I went on Home Hardware’s website to send a note to the company and it doesn’t allow comments! There is a comment page and it tells you to go back to Home Hardware in person and tell a manager because they’re also an owner and blah blah blah! I haven’t had the time to do this yet.
In the meantime I’ve applied a coat of primer and two coats of the slate grey floor/porch paint and I must say it looks pretty darn good.
It won’t show up the dirt like the lighter colour did and it’s already textured for walking on because of the failed stone experiment underneath. I have a couple of touch-ups to do and then I can finally call it a wrap. If it needs more paint in the spring, that’s not a big deal. This fix was all Derek’s idea and it solved the problem beautifully although I must say I’ve had quite enough of rolling and brushing on these steps for one year!
