Having had brief periods of icky health (surgery recovery, that kind of thing) I often think about how lucky I am to be well.
I just finished reading Anwar Knight’s blog about his treatments for Lymphoma. Knight, the TV meteorologist, must only be in his 30’s. He’s spending his days undergoing radiation now after rounds of chemo. Mark Dailey, the big, low voice of City TV has had a recurrence of cancer and he’s back in the battle. It doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care what you’ve got going on in your life. It just shows up uninvited and takes over. And there are many, many more people who are having to go through so much just to get through the day, health-wise. My pal Suzanne has just recently wrapped up her treatments for breast cancer. She’s in her 30’s and I must say, she looked very cute as a bald chick! She also had one of the best attitudes I’ve ever heard of, while going through it all. The list of people goes on and on.
So let’s just celebrate our good health today, shall we?
A highly reflective and introspective article today and very appropriate given that were on the cusp of transition from summer to fall later today. In many ways, life is like the change of seasons, we know what they are but were never sure what to expect, so we adapt and adjust to that which life and nature throws at us and hopefully stopping from time to time to take stock and give thanks for what we do have. For fall, is a reminder of the beauty which exists within nature and life with the display of its radiant colours, no matter how fleeting.
I hardly get so much as a headache or a cold, and I’ve never taken a sick day in my life. I forget to be grateful for that.
My husband Dan had lymphoma and went through treatment at 20. 26 years later… it hasn’t come back. 🙂 His ‘cancer birthday’ is more important to him than his real birthday.
