First let me say that it’s very cool that this film’s director, Katherine Bigelow, became the first woman ever to win a Best Director Oscar.
The fact that she slipped it out from under the egotistical feet of her admittedly brilliant ex-husband James Cameron is also kind of sweet. (He was a real dog back then and a crappy husband, by his own admission!) The Hurt Locker also won Best Picture. It’s not often that a woman directs a gritty combat film and it shows like a documentary of the Iraq war. Maybe that’s why it won, for its realism.
Now my review:
War is hell. And so is trying to watch this movie.
