Discussing religion is always dicey. The fact is, no one can really, truly answer a lot of important questions about the universe and our role in it. But many people are unable to acknowledge that and some see any discussion of religion as an attack on it.
My main complaint is the pervasive belief that one cannot have a moral compass if one is not guided by scripture – whatever scripture you choose. That’s utter bullshit! But Sam Harris explains it more eloquently and thoroughly than I ever could. By sharing this I’m not attacking your religion or your right to believe whatever you want. I’m agreeing with Harris that too many people allow it to distract them in a can’t-see-the-forest-for-the-trees kind of way.

A discussion about religion, why the universe has unfolded as it has and our role in it, can be easily answered but its often over looked because its to obvious. You merely need to crouch down and stare into the dark eyes of your favorite canine companion to discover everything they are by birth, that we humans can only aspire to achieving through a life of struggles and turmoil and yet all to often fail.
I’d rather be more like my dog than the majority of people I’ve known, something truly worthy to aspire to!
That’s brilliant, Allan. Well said.
