I’ve wanted to try Under the Volcano for a long while. It’s a Mexican restaurant here in London that’s got a great reputation and has been in the city a long time.
The co-owner and I have a mutual friend and my radio station runs loads of weather sponsorships for the eatery so I have had daily reminders of its existence. This past Saturday night, we finally went.
They offer a nice variety of dishes and some that delightfully stray from the typical enchillada and burrito fare. I had a chicken breast bathed in a mango and olive chutney that was exquisite, served with a non-gluttonous amount of brown rice pilaf. Derek enjoyed his Mexican pizza. They accidentally added chicken, which he had not ordered, so to compensate they only charged him half price. Let’s see, more food for less money? Sounds good to us! However, his cheese soup was too salty and tasted like melted Velveeta. Next time, we’ll try their corn chowder.
The serving staff are friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is fun with Mexican blankets and vibrant teals and clays on the walls. I really loved it. They also have vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu choices. We’ll be back and I’ll look forward to trying something new again.
