The Corus Radio company has kicked off a chain-wide “shop local” campaign that encourages listeners to get out and buy locally.
Cynics will say it’s self-serving – and of course it is – but so what? It’s also a creative and respectable approach to staying on the sunny side of what’s going on with the economy and rallying business brethren to keep the wheels turning.
In a release, Corus says it will profile businesses and create other on-air promotions , features and sales packages for its radio stations with an aim of encouraging local shopping. What they’re doing is reminding us that we have a responsibility to our neighbours to patronize their establishments so their businesses flourish and they put cash back into the local economy, which benefits us all. That’s leadership I can definitely get behind.
