Reviewing the Reviews of Reviewers, Including My Own

I used to review events as part of my work in broadcasting. It was never comfortable. TV shows, movies – not so bad. But live productions that cost a lot of money? I had a hard time telling people to pay to see something I had seen for free. Unless I was completely blown away by it. And few things blew me away.

ImPort Stanley is weekly series about life and discoveries by a recent “import” to Port Stanley, ON.

Every time I’ve gone to see a small-town theatre production, it was worth it. Port Stanley’s Festival Theatre included. It’s been many years since I’ve seen a show there. The last time, I drove from my home in Toronto. Now that we live here, it’s time to rediscover this gem of an attraction.

Tommy at Stratford

It’s amusing to think that most of the performers in the Stratford Festival’s production of Tommy weren’t born when the double-album first came out in 1969.  But that has no bearing on the show. It’s stellar and it surpasses any attempt at staging Pete Townshend’s rock opera I’ve seen before – and there have been a few.  …
