Occasionally I’m asked to read the writing of someone I don’t know very well. Â They occasionally approach me to ask for my opinion and I’m loathe to say no because it’s difficult for them to do. This isn’t a problem if they have talent but there’s no way to know at the start. Â And it’s just awful when the writing is terrible. Â By terrible I mean an inability to tell a story, not just bad grammar – an editor can fix that. Â …

Here’s where my little book currently stands: Â It is about to be professionally edited. Â This is a step that a lot of people skip and boy, does it show. Â You simply cannot edit your own work with the same critical eye that someone else can give it. Â It is not possible. I’ve been writing professionally for much more than a decade now and I don’t submit a thing without having another set of eyes look it over.
