…How do you celebrate a year of having the most fun you can imagine doing a “job”?
Derek has challenged me to go on a 30-day social media detox. I’m going to do it in 2024. That will mean no Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Threads or LinkedIn for a month. No Randy Rainbow, Holistic Psychologist, Anthony Jeselnik or Michael Rappaport.
…Fake news doesn’t just sprout from national politics and pandemics. It happens in a small, lakeside town, too. Here in Port Stanley we have a mystery in the harbour. And you won’t find the truth from the Internet.
…Recently, the couple at the center of this story told it, and I was there. I’m retelling it here, albeit without some specific, identifying details, because it isn’t my story. But I have two reasons for wanting to share it. 1. I think it’s awesome. 2. It shows once again that, in the words of my former KOOL-FM colleague Brian Bourke, “criminals are stupid”.
…It began when a pal posted a Facebook event. And down the rabbit hole I went. I discovered that I share my fondness for a 1970’s TV icon with thousands of other people.
…My fashion sense – if I ever had any – has abandoned me.

The Canadian government is matching donations until March 18, so your money doubles.

…I’d like you to meet my new company! It’s a partnership with my friend and longtime journalist and communications pro, Scott Taylor: White Hat PR! We’re the good guys and the good guys always wear white hats.
…A film-maker recently approached me with a request to have me voice a character for them. The budget was “just for fun”! People have tried to get me to work for free before, but I’d never seen “fun” as a payment term.
…This post is general and it’s personal. My former mother-in-law has had her life savings, and even her wedding rings, stolen by a couple of family members. Close ones. The ones she would never suspect would treat her like she no longer mattered. I would love to name them and shame them and hunt them down. But it’s not my place.
…Some people want to interview the Pope. Others want to spend time with Paul McCartney. I just want to talk to a flat-earther! …
We’ve all seen those videos and stories about how a cure for cancer has been suppressed, the secret to dissolving belly fat, etc.. They come from websites with vaguely familiar names and have been “overlooked” or ignored by mainstream medicine and media. …
Longtime readers might remember references to Cousin Kim. She’s Derek’s cousin by DNA but I’ve definitely claimed her too! With permission of her daughter, Kristina, I’m sharing their story today. It’s a scam I’d never heard of but it’s more common than we might think. A frustrated Kristina told her story on the Mastercard Facebook page: …
Perhaps I got a little too blase about purchasing things online. I don’t even remember what my mindset was like when I bought Advanced Final Skin Care on a ‘risk-free trial’ by paying ‘only the shipping cost’. I defy anyone to check their web page or ad and find the “clearly explained” terms and conditions that would have told me I’m becoming their customer forever. …
