Upsides of 2021

Overall, 2021 will be remembered as mostly a suckfest. It was the year that deprived Betty White of her 100th birthday, just a few days away. We lived in a terrible tug of war with personal freedoms. One day we’ve got them, one day we don’t, as we attempt to stay out of the coronavirus’s way. But some good things did happen last year.

Home

When I went to my Mom’s condo in early August for a visit from far-away relatives, I didn’t know how long I would be there. I had packed a bag a few times before, believing I would “know” when it was time to stay, and I did. It was clear. Brittany Maynard is my Heroine

She didn’t sell a single record, appear in a movie or TV reality show, or post selfies to Twitter. But Brittany Maynard is a superstar in my view. The 29-year-old with terminal brain cancer ended her own suffering on the weekend by taking a lethal dose of drugs. Day by day, she could feel herself slipping away and losing the basic ability to think and she refused to let the process drag out for up to six excruciating months.  …

Update: Rick Bigg RIP

I wrote just a month or so ago about London motorcycle rider, Rick Bigg, and his sudden diagnosis with terminal cancer. Rick died on Saturday and the fundraiser for his widow, Laurie, goes on as planned this weekend. (My original post on Rick and Laurie appears HERE.)  Rick had hoped to take one more ride, but it seems he never got his wish.  …
