Throwback Thursday – Biker Buddies

my last motorcycle - a beautiful Yamaha V-star 1100

We spent some time sorting stuff in the basement last weekend, after the temperature plummeted to -22C after hitting 9C the day before. Bins of papers from The World of Motorcycles Expo are stacked floor to ceiling. As suspected, not all of them have to be kept. Derek produced “the London bike show” for a decade. I helped in its final few years. It was a huge challenge to organize and before it folded, we expanded to Kitchener and Hamilton. We gave it up because after many years of annual rent increases, it suddenly doubled. The amount was outrageous. We would have had to operate at a loss. What’s the point of that? We tried in vain to find a comparable venue. But I digress.

It took a village to put on the show and I’m so glad Derek thought to get a professional photo of the core team.

group shot of six of us in various positions in a huge display of bikes. Some standing beside bikes, some - like me - sitting on one.
Steve, Kerry, Gaetan, Derek, Jeff, Barry, me.

Kerry was the group Mama. She’s the warmest, kindest person you could ever meet. I’m happy to say we’re still good friends. Her son Jeff is just like his Mom, except several feet taller. The rest of them drift in and out of our lives but we’re always glad to see each other.
