Retirement Matters

It seems like everyone we know is retiring! That’s an exaggeration. But we know a lot of people who are finished with their daily-grind working lives. And I’m not too proud to say that I’m envious.

Erin Davis, as you know, moved out west after escaping the early routine of the CHFI morning show. She’s not exactly retired, but she is off the “man’s” hamster wheel and doing what she wants. We have several friends who retired early, one because his company closed and he got a massive payout. Others because they counted their pennies and planned accordingly. Derek is far from retired, but he works from home and doesn’t have to go out of the house in the frigid cold if he doesn’t want to. Unlike me, who leaves around 3:30 am no matter the weather. Wah!

Retirement isn’t really in our plans. We’ll always do something. Whether or not it’s what we do now, is up for discussion. But being master of your own daily schedule is the eventual goal. The federal government last week was advised to create incentives for people to put off drawing from CPP and Old Age Security and keep us in the workforce longer. I’ll be happy to stay in the workforce but as for putting off drawing what I’ve paid into for decades my response is this: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If it’s still there, I’ll be taking it!
