My Next Radio Adventure

Beginning August 4th, I’ll be part of a new morning show on London News-Talk 1290 CJBK.

First Thing with Mike Stubbs and Lisa Brandt will be a mix of news, interviews, topical talk and whatever else we throw in there. Mike is a talented, sports-minded broadcaster who’s also the voice of the London Knights. I can’t find one person who has a bad thing to say about him. I’ve known him by reputation for a long time and it’s going to be great to work with him. For you out-of-towners, CJBK is the closest thing London has to Toronto’s CFRB. Our major competition is AM980 which is a mix of a type of 680 News newswheel and talk. It will sort of be like the 1980s when I worked at CKSL here in London and CJBK was our main foe as we both played hit music. AM is still alive and well and battling for market share!

So, it’s back to AM radio with no more AC/DC or Def Leppard to tap to as I write my newscasts, but that’s quite alright. It was time for a change and I’ll appreciate the music more when I finally do hear it. My new boss is a guy I worked with at 680 News – Scott Simpson – and his boss is the guy who hired me at Rogers Toronto to do news on CHFI, where I met the fabulous Erin Davis and that whole crew that I love and miss to this day. I feel supported and wanted and what more can you ask for?  And I’m happy to say that the previous morning host and local legend Steve Garrison will stay with the station and do a midday talk show.

Until then, I still have a week of sleeping in all the way until 5:30am (if I’m lucky!) and doing whatever I want. It’s bliss. I just wanted to let you know what was in the works, beginning Tuesday August 4th.

  1. Dearest Lisa – I know I join a very large band of cheerleaders who are just so proud of you and wishing you only happiness, respect, appreciation and great fulfillment in the months and years ahead. You’re going to have yet another chance to grow, to shine, to prove once again why you’re so highly respected and loved in this business. Wishing you good luck, good coffee, good news and good times with Mike. GO LISA! xo E.
