The Wedding of The Year!

The only daughter of our very dear friends got married on the weekend. This event has been long in the planning and heavy in anticipation. And it was a very special, wonderful day.

I don’t feel it’s my place to tell the story of the bride and groom except to say that Lauren, daughter of Erin and Rob, is a beautiful, talented, and remarkable young woman. She was always that way as a girl, and she’s seemed to grow up so fast, which is what they do I suppose.  Her groom, Phil, seems like a terrific guy and everyone says they’re two peas in a pod.  Their wedding was held in a storied old church on the water.  It was personal and beautiful, with Lauren’s Grandfather playing a major role in the ceremony.

The reception was lovely and the two Dads emceed with lots of laughter and a few tears.  And of course, there was cake!

For me, the wedding was a bit of a reunion of sorts. I don’t get to see Erin and Rob a fraction as often as I’d like to. As both of us would like to, for that matter.  So it was wonderful to share in this important day.  And we got to hang with the CHFI morning crew who I’ve known for years and also miss seeing.  Ian “The General” MacArthur and his wife Anita, Gord Rennie and his girlfriend Dawn – who I first met last year on a Mexico trip – and Mike and Deb Cooper. We had a lot of laughs and I was sent to babysit when the three guys were summoned to appear on video in tribute to the bride and groom.  Once Mike had licked his tie clean (salad dressing? gravy?) they gave a hilarious, spontaneous and touching toast/roast.

And a shout out to 680 News reporter, wonderful guy and our punch deliverer, Carl Hantske.  I haven’t seen him or his wife, CHFI’s Michelle Butterly, in a few years now. Carl is one of the most respect-worthy journalists I’ve ever worked with. Also Mary-Ellen Beninger and Alan Cross, Alan Bell, Erin’s sisters, Rogers Radio exec Julie Adam – it was just great to see them all again.

I like when we get all dressed up and go out and play.   Congratulations again to Lauren and Phil and to Rob and Erin for the great job they did raising such a wonderful woman.

  1. Aw…Lisa…thank you SO much! I should just post a link to THIS for my first blog tomorrow when I head back to work. Thank you for your kind, loving words and I hope to see you again when I can sit and we can really reconnect. It worked Erin…your link brought me here. Another great place for. Great reads 🙂

  3. I know that church. Kerry and I went on a drive one day and ended up there looking around the grounds and thinking it was so pretty. Weddings are great when you get to see old friends and you know a lot of the people there. It sounds like you’re all a big family and that makes it so much more fun. I’ve loved reading and hearing all the stories about the day. I’m so glad it didn’t rain. Just finished reading your book Lisa about that summer job you had. I’m still shaking my head over some of those tales.
