Erotica Finds a Place in Design – Sun Media, June 7-9

One day you may find you need a little help in the bedroom and you know the only solution is to call in a specialist. You’ll need someone who’s sensitive yet knowledgeable and prepared to give you the straight goods without doing irreparable harm to your tender ego. Erotica Interiors offers niche decorating at its most intimate and personal.

Bedecking a bedroom isn’t like gussying up any other room in your home. In the kitchen, you work around the fridge and stove. In the living room, once you have decided on a location for a fireplace or a big-screen TV, you can carry on. In the bedroom, positioning is everything and that’s where Karen Klucowicz of Erotica Interiors comes in.

“People need more fun in their lives. Our spaces end up being a true extension of a person’s being. When they are comfortable in their own skin, with their sexuality and are willing to invest in themselves, it shows and makes for a fabulous space to live in.”

Karen’s company is a full-service design studio for both residential and commercial spaces, but her process of focusing on emotion has led her to specialize in truly personalized boudoir settings. And don’t be misled by the title. Erotica doesn’t mean she’ll suggest anything weird. Unless it’s what you want.

“It’s all about well-designed, sexy spaces. Everyone needs and deserves an environment that projects their personality and opens their life up to more enjoyment. We’re passionate about design and we want people to love their spaces and live life to the fullest.”

Karen says her clients come in all types but two main themes often emerge. One is a couple looking to reignite a spark. The second is the single, perhaps post-divorce man or woman wishing to create an inviting space for a potential or eventual new partner. Some want an environment created specifically for them. Others choose from predesigned bedrooms. Karen’s best-seller is titled Sultry Nights and includes a four-poster bed, electric fireplace and other speciality furnishings including a toy chest with hidden compartments for the playthings.

With working lives operating 24/7 it’s not uncommon for the bedroom to become an extension of the office. We watch our flat-screens and tap on our tablets and ereaders in bed which can all get in the way of anything akin to romance. Karen’s philosophy here isn’t to fight it, but to go with it and make the technology part of the experience.

“We have in-depth discussions with clients to determine what functions their bedroom has to accommodate. Apart from the obvious rest, retreat and play, people do work, watch TV and read in this space as well. My tip for those that insist on having a TV in the bedroom is to tie a sound system in to it and feed another sensibility with it.”

A survey conducted last year by British retailer Littlewoods found people felt purple in a bedroom was the sexiest while grey, even fifty shades of it, was the least appealing. With Erotica Interiors choosing the hues for your private retreat is more than just picking colours you like. They should also put you in your best light.

“Surround yourself in colour and texture that make you feel sexy. We help with that by making sure the colours complement your complexion, your eyes – a feast for the senses.”

Karen’s service goes way beyond paint colours to furnishings and anything else that will make the space more reflective of the people who use it, and more likely to make them relaxed and happy for whatever may come. Your bedroom can become a truly beautiful thing that you can choose to decorate any way your heart, or another body part, desires.
