World Water Day

Happy World Water Day!

We waste a lot of water. We do a lot of it mindlessly.  A water conservation group in the US came out with some practical tips for conserving water.  In this part of the world where we enjoy an abundance of nearly everything, it’s easy to forget that even water isn’t available in an endless supply.

The tips:

1. Turn off the water when you brush your teeth or shave.  Running the water while you brush is just lazy, pure and simple.

2. Take short five-minute showers instead of baths.  After a while you simply can’t get any more clean anyway!

3.  Use a dishwasher,or at least fill the sink with water to wash all the dishes at once. An Energy Star dishwasher uses 20 percent less water than a standard dishwasher.

4. Buy used jeans, or wear your old pair longer. Manufacturing a pair of jeans uses about 3,480 liters of water, according to Time magazine.  Goodwill should use this fact in their ads.

5. Wash full laundry loads, especially if you live in an apartment complex without small, medium and large wash settings. The machine will use the same amount of water no matter how big your load.

I’m sure there are other ways to conserve but those are the most universal ideas I’ve found. Let’s raise a glass of H20 to World Water Day.
