App Update

When I wrote a couple of weeks ago about a weight-loss app that was working for me, I heard from several people who were either going to give it a try or were already using it.

My Fitness Pal has so far guided me to a loss of 12 pounds in 6 weeks which is exactly the rate I was looking for. Heck, I lost 2 pounds during the week of Christmas, even though I gave myself a “free” day on Christmas Day and enjoyed whatever I wanted, from sections of Terry’s chocolate orange to seconds of Mom’s turkey and the works. My goal is 21 pounds – basically the amount I’ve allowed to slide on over the past few years – and I’m thrilled to be over the halfway hump.

I’m just wondering how it’s going for y’all?  Logging in every bite that goes in my pie hole with just a couple of clicks has been the answer for me. It’s just good old fashioned calorie counting.  In previous attempts at losing some baggage I never used to count things like carrot sticks and apples but this app requires you to track it all and it makes a difference. Imagine, no bottles of mystery herbs, no visits to some “clinic” every week and it still works – for free. At least, it’s working for me.

  1. I stopped with my Fitnesspal.com last Saturday and will get back on it after I return from a visit out west. I’m up a few lbs I know, but was aiming for some wiggle room (in my pants) when I began this at the end of October. 2 lb a week is fantastic, Lisa – especially during Christmas week! SO happy for you. Here’s to a great find for a lean 2013! Now, if you’ll excuse me, my FATness pal is offering me shortbread. Gotta run….

    1. I wish I could loosen up a bit more right now but I simply have to stay kind of rigid. I will also go off the rails on New Year’s Eve when we have our traditional seafood and cheesecake feast! But I am enjoying myself and that’s important at this time of year! There’s all of 2013 to count calories, sister. Have fun!

  2. The free calorie counter app I use is from Fat Secret. It also allows me to keep track of the amount of calories I burn with my exercises.

My fruit intake is what was getting me… even coffee (since I take milk) and salad dressings add up quickly! I lost the last 15 lbs. I wanted to, but almost 10 of it has crept back on my over the last 2 months. 🙁

It’s all good; I’m back on track now (down 2 lbs this week) but I have to hold myself accountable for slipping. It doesn’t help that I’m an emotional eater as well. 😛

These apps makes it easy to keep track of things, even fast food orders:

    1. Thanks Stace. My Fitness Pal does that too. You can load your physical activity, it adjusts your calorie intake accordingly and all of that. It sounds like the two apps are very similar. I can’t believe how accountable it makes me! Although New Year’s Eve, all bets are off, baby!
